Mar-Lu-Ridge Staff
Our ministry would not be possible without the hard work and dedication of our amazing year-round and summer staff! Meet our year-round staff below, and visit our summer staff page for more information about seasonal positions.
Sarah Lefler
Executive Director
Sarah is a lifelong camper, counselor, volunteer and friend of the camp. Before becoming Executive Director in August 2009, Sarah spent the majority of her adult life working as a Paramedic. She enjoys hiking and spending time in God’s creation and feels that MLR is her spiritual home. Her favorite thing about camp is the community – and the view from the outdoor chapel! She is active with the Eastern territory of LOM (Lutheran Outdoor Ministries), and appreciates learning from colleagues. Sarah is committed to making each camper and guest feel welcome and supported, just as they are, beloved children of God.
Diana Edelblute
Associate Director
Diana is originally from York, PA and attended summer camp at Nawakwa in Arendtsville, PA for 15 years as a camper, counselor, and program director. She holds a BS in Environmental Science from Moravian College in Bethlehem, PA. She has spent much of her post-college life on the west coast, including a service year in AmeriCorps NCCC, working in Conservation & Stewardship for the Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy, and teaching/coordinating overnight outdoor and environmental education programs at YMCA Camp Seymour in WA state. Diana loves how camp unites people from different backgrounds in God’s beautiful, mysterious Creation for a time away from the busyness of everyday life. She enjoys spending as much time outside as possible, particularly hiking and exploring with husband Arron and daughter Weslie.
Tim Waskiewicz
Food Service Director
Tim has fed thousands of happy campers and retreat guests at Mar-Lu-Ridge since October 2004. He has more than 30 years’ experience in food service, working his way up through the ranks from dishwasher to general manager of a fine dining restaurant. Chef Tim has apprenticed under German, Swiss, French, and American chefs, and has worked in privately-owned, made-from-scratch kitchens and hotels in the DC/Baltimore area. Chef Tim is devoted to making each meal “not the same old camp food,” accommodating dietary restrictions, and customizing menus for our guests.
Jim Brasefield
Facilities Management
Jim is a long time camper and counselor who has continued his time at Mar-Lu-Ridge as part of our Facilities team. He holds certifications in Pool Operation and High Ropes Facilitation & Training. He is a youth mentor as a part of the Lutheran Youth Organization in the Delaware-Maryland and Metro DC Synods. Jim enjoys visiting the Renaissance Festival, participating in Historical European Martial Arts, watching movies, and talking about Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and comic books.
Kevin Brunk
Facilities Management
Kevin has decades of experience in construction and project management. His eye for detail and love for MLR makes this a great place for his many skills and talents. Kevin was a former staff member, serving on both summer staff and the facilities team, and he is certified as a Pool Operator. He enjoys spending time with his family and is very active in his church.
